What’s your favorite guitar accessory – reader poll
Jul 21st, 2007
I am curious to know what guitar accessories people love most. It can be anything that you use in your playing, not including your actual guitar, amp, or cable. It can be your favorite pedal, your slide, maybe a capo. Really anything. Also let us know why you love that accessory so much.
Please post your answers to the comments section of this post. Then i will tally the results and let everyone one know the overall results along with my own.
I'll get things started. My favorite accessory is my analogman comprossor. I love this pedal for a number of reasons. It is really well made and a great high-quality compressor. I got it for about $175 on eBay. Well worth the money. It is not noisy like other low-end compressors and it doesn't have that "pumping" sound like other low-end compressors. When it's on my guitar sustains so beautifully, and when I strum a chord the notes really sparkle. I can't imagine not having it. I would replace it without hesitation if it were ever lost or stolen. In the near future i will write a full review on it with sound samples.
Ok, now it's your turn...
My Shubb Capo
You can adjust the tension depending on where you place it on the neck. I use a bunch of different alternate tunings with the capo placed at different places on the neck. By adjusting the tension on the capo, the guitar stays in tune much better than it did when I used a Kyser capo.
my guitar stand, seriously. I play twice as much when the guitar is sat next me.
My guitar pick that I’ve had since I’ve gotten my guitar, and somehow have not broken it yet. (It’s a standard white Fender medium pick)
I really don’t have any cool guitar accessories so this will have to do! I definitely have the money to go get a few accessories, but I will be needing that money for the coming college season. Sigh.
Have you seen the Grip Guitar Pick? They are readily available through musiciansfriend.com. These are ergonomic, contoured guitar picks available in different thicknesses and materials. I never liked playing with a pick, but these have completely revolutionized my playing. I’ve found that after playing with this contoured pick for any period of time and then trying to go back to a flat pick is so un-natural. These really feel GREAT.
Drayth,
Never heard of ‘em. I’ll have to check them out. I play dunlop Jazz III’s. They are really stiff and small. I love them…
This may sound ridiculous, but, I recently bought the Planet Waves stomp pedal tuner (the chromatic one), and I’ve been digging it a lot. I did an “open thread” post in my blog asking folks about tuners when I was looking for one to replace my old Boss, and someone recommended Planet Waves. http://igblog.wordpress.com/2007/05/08/open-thread-what-kind-of-guitar-tuner-do-you-use/
It’s built like a brick, it’s easy to use, and there’s something about it that it gets the guitar in tune right on spot. I don’t know. The rest of my pedals have not been behavin’ good lately. But, the tuner, it’s kicking butt and doing a fine job…

The planet waves pro winder tool
It cuts, stretches strings. Has a bridge puller and has a winder all in one tool – it makes restringing my guitar so easy (also it makes you look like a pro)
Best $25AUS spent ever
Iphone.
So helpful in so many different ways.
I love using the voice memo recorder to record quick and dirty sketches of riffs. And the Note pad to write down lyric idears.
Also a ton of great apps. like the metronome. guitar chord charts and access to thousand of guitar tabs(great for when someone says…. can you play this song?)
Good place to keep guitar backing tracks and drum beats to jam with.
