Mark Goffeney – The Armless Guitar Player
Sep 16th, 2008
Who says you need good hands to play the guitar? Not Mark Goffeney, a guitarist who was born without any arms. He serves as an inspiration to all those people who were told they couldn't do it, that with determination and a strong heart you can do anything. In Mark's case, it's the love of music.
This post was inspired by an article I read in Ability Magazine. It's pretty in depth about Mark's struggles growing up, finding jobs and working through his disability. It's a great story.
I met him years ago when I worked at the Taylor factory. He also used to play along the Prado in Balboa park.
“Inspirational” is the word. So many of us make excuses for not improving on our instrument or even trying to play live for example. Mark’s story puts it into perspective for us all
This video is indeed inspiring. It only means that there should be no excuses for those who really want to learn playing guitar and even other instruments. If a disabled person can, what more can a person having both his hands.
Thanks for sharing this video.
Its inspiring to have people play guitars without hands because they have determination and the will to do what is impossible for some. Mark Goffeney hands down to what you achieved.
This really puts things into perspective. You can achieve anything with enough determination. This is a great reminder of what a gift it is to play music. Thanks for sharing this.
It’s amazing that a person can play guitar without having hands. The truth is that the art does not mean experience. It is more than this.
