Great guitar video - Steve Vai, For the Love of God

I am not crazy about most shredders. There are only a few who I really like. I just think the whole speed and tapping bit gets a little tired and tasteless from time to time. But there are some shredders that I do like. And Steve Vai is one of them. I think his songs are tasteful and musically interesting. That’s why I chose this liver performance for this week’s great guitar video.
For The Love of God happens to be one of my favorite Vai songs. Even though this song is a little bit cheesy (the solo is a bit showy), there is still just something about it that I really like. Sometimes it is just fun to watch someone tear it up like that. For those of you not familiar with Vai or this type of music, you will see it is quite cool. His whammy bar tricks add a cool dimension to his playing. It’s hard to think that all this kind of music is because of Jimi Hendrix. But that’s for another time.
I think this performance is from the G3 tour with Joe Satriani and Eric Johnson
Just enjoy the video:
I love Vai. I actually saw him on this tour. I’m pretty sure that this was the tour where Adrian Legg opened the show. He’s an amazing acoustic player. Certainly worth checking out. Thanks for the post.
Nice video, but I have always been more of a fan of Malmsteen! Here are a couple of videos of the master at work:

Simon,
Thanks or stopping by my blog. I must say, I am actually not such a big fan of Malmsteen. I liked for at one point for a few weeks, but then i got over him real fast. There is only so much shredding Can take, especially when that is ALL a guitar player does. I didn’t find his playing to have much feeling. And speed players are a dime a dozen. Anyone can practice with a metronome night and day and become blazing fast. But not everyone can make great music and play with great soul. And that’s what really counts for me when I like a guitar player.
But thanks for the post and thenaks for the videos. I hope you stop back some time. thanks!
One of the most complex guitar players, I have seen a video with him preparing a song, man, he really puts his soul in there.
